Fun Arts & Crafts Activity for Kids: The CIY Crayola Star

I wanted to share with all of you this really fun activity Veena and I did inspired by Home & Family TV. During this time, where we’ve been at home way more than normal, it’s been important to think outside the box and come up with activities to fill our days. This one was really fun because not only was it collaborative and fairly easy, but it took us some time so it kept us busy! :)

I’m so happy that Home and Family TV gave us this idea. I know I’m bias since I’m Hallmark Channel talent, but I always enjoy watching it. It’s honestly one of the most relaxing daytime shows to watch because someone is either cooking up something yummy, making something fun and overall, bringing a ton of cheer. I like that I can have it on in the background if I’m making lunch and Veena is playing independently. During the pandemic, obviously tv production had to stop, but they’ve done such a great job of still sharing the show with all of us with “At Home With Our Family” segments where their hosts/correspondents film segments from home. Debbie Matenopoulos, one of Home and Family’s lead hosts, did this craft with her daughter, Alexandra so I thought I would try it with Veena.

Here’s a few photos of our process. I wasn’t able to take any of us actually painting the bags because well, let’s just say I was too preoccupied because Veena was quite enthusiastic about the paint and I had to make sure it didn’t get all over our house. Special shout out to our wonderful caregiver, Julia who took these photos and joined us in the craft.

Full disclosure, we should have waited a bit more for the paint to dry because our star was a tiny bit soggy, but it actually turned out a-ok! You can check out our finished product above. Love that picture of Veena smiling up at me because she just had the best time making it!

Here is the video of Debbie and her sweet daughter creating the star (theirs is waaay better). I also included the video from the Crayola website. They have a lot of fun DIY/CIY crafts on there to get ideas or step by step guides. Take a moment to peruse if you need craft ideas for kids.

If you end up making this craft or have another one that you found, please share it with me! I’m always looking for some fun, time consuming :) and easy arts and crafts ideas to do with Veena. Happy crafting!
